Consenso de huéspedes japoneses

Jozankei's best-loved big inn: handmade kaiseki, a breakfast buffet people rave about, free drinks in three lounges and staff who make a fuss over birthdays — but only a few rooms have their own onsen, the bathhouse is a walk away, and 2026 brought some upkeep and privacy lapses

Nukumori no Yado Furukawa is a 52–55-room inn (sources differ) in the middle of Jozankei, run by the Furukawa group that also has inns in Otaru and Shiraoi. Its motto is that it has 'nothing glittering', only warmth, and the reviews agree: Japanese guests rate it 4.7 across 4,027 reviews on one major site — breakfast, dinner and service all at 4.8, baths lowest at 4.4 — and 4.63 across 1,411 on another. People come for the food and the fuss. Dinner is a handmade seasonal kaiseki (botan prawns, wagyu hotpot), with sea-bream rice, free souvenir photos and a loaned chanchanko vest for milestone birthdays; breakfast is a big 'country-style' Japanese buffet with a live donburi station and fresh bread. Free drinks flow in the lobby lounge, at a woodland foot-bath lounge and, for the seventh- and eighth-floor 'Tsukihoshi' rooms, in a top-floor lounge with draught craft beer. The baths are in a separate three-storey building, plus Yumemi, a dim basement bath of 100% unaltered spring water that recreates Jozankei's first bath from 1866. Bloggers from 2022 to 2026 loved it. The caveats: only about nine rooms have their own onsen bath, and the two private baths cost ¥2,200; getting to the bathhouse means two lifts and a corridor some call a maze; and the lobby is a flight of stairs below the lifts. 2026 reviewers also report staff twice opening an occupied private bath whose lock didn't work, a mouldy teapot, insects, worn bath fittings, and a dinner some found scaled back. Most recent reviewers paid ¥21,000 to over ¥30,000 per person with two meals.

Recomendadas

  • Tsukihoshi (月星) floor — Meigetsu/Oborozuki 705–706 (54㎡) or the onsen rooms 701, 702–703, 721 and 801

Tsukihoshi rooms get the top-floor lounge with draught Sorachi Ace beer, wine and whisky, a foot bath and morning pastries, dinner in private rooms at Kochūten and free entry to Yumemi. A 2025 blogger celebrating a parent's birthday in 705 with a pregnant companion found pregnancy cushions laid out and caffeine quietly avoided; 801, a 64㎡ mountain-lodge room with a tiled onsen bath and a record player, has repeat fans. Most Tsukihoshi guests paid over ¥30,000 per person in 2026.

  • Furusato Japanese-Western rooms (ふるさと和洋室, 54㎡)

A tatami living room plus a twin bedroom with 140cm beds and a massage chair, sleeping up to six, with free Yumemi entry — the pick for families and three-generation trips. A July 2026 regular, upgraded for free into this wing, found it so roomy they plan to request it next time; a June 2026 regular recommends the standard rooms over Tsukihoshi for the old Furukawa feel.

  • Dog-friendly rooms (301, 302, 303, 305), and anyone with limited mobility

In September 2025 a guest in a dog room found the tatami area only about three mats, with stains, and wished for a room with beds. Dogs may only be in rooms and the lobby. More widely, the lifts start a floor above the lobby (there's a stair lift, which stalled with a wheelchair user on it in March 2026), several rooms have a step that guests tripped on, and a September 2026 guest found a wobbly step into the in-room bath.

The 'country-style' Japanese buffet at Senjikian — homemade side dishes, a live-kitchen donburi, fresh croissants — is the most praised meal; Tsukihoshi guests can instead book a set breakfast at Yorokobian (25 a day), though a June 2026 couple found it had become plainer and preferred the buffet

Go early: a family who came late in July 2026 found some dishes nearly gone, and another found the room smelled strongly of butter. Pick 17:30 or 19:30 for dinner to get a free glass of beer or soft drink. Join the Kizuna members' club for 13:00 check-in and 11:00 check-out. Book the free shuttle from Ōdōri Nishi 1-chōme (14:30 out, 10:00 back).

Claves de la cena

4.4/5

A seasonal kaiseki (17:30–21:30, last start 19:30) — the autumn 2026 menu had tuna and botan prawn sashimi, fried Hokkaido pufferfish and a wagyu hotpot — served in private rooms at Kochūten (a Kyushu farmhouse joined to an Otaru stone warehouse, 10 groups a night) mainly for Tsukihoshi guests, or at Senjikian. Extras include grilled king crab (¥8,000) and Furano beef (¥3,800). A 2022 blogger called it a '100-point' dinner and many reviewers praise how allergies are handled, but in 2026 some found it scaled back (nothing cooked over a flame), small or too many cold dishes, and in March 2025 one guest was served a declared allergen.

Onsen y bienestar: la realidad

Tipo de agua

Jozankei's sodium chloride spring. Booking sites list the large baths as free-flowing with water added to cool them, and the private baths as not free-flowing. The basement bath Yumemi is officially 100% spring water with nothing added, topped up from the bottom as it cools.

Privacidad y ambiente

A three-storey bath building, reached by a fourth-floor bridge: Tsukichi-no-yu (1F) and Katen-no-yu (2F) swap between men and women overnight, each with an open-air bath, a steam bath fed by the ~80°C source and novelty tubs (a milky hydrogen bath; a lemon bath in summer 2026); there's a lounge with free drinks on 3F. Yumemi (B1, 15:00–23:00, ¥500, free for Tsukihoshi and Furusato rooms) is a silent, dimly lit meditation bath with no washing area, closed to children of primary-school age and under. Two private baths cost ¥2,200 for 50 minutes. Complaints: the long route to the baths, open-air water lukewarm or too hot on some days, and a September 2026 family whose private bath was opened twice by staff because the lock didn't work.

Advertencias y matices locales

  1. 01

Check-in 15:00–19:00, check-out 10:30. The free shuttle from central Sapporo is reservation-only, one run each way.

  2. 02

Getting around takes effort: the lifts are a flight of stairs above the lobby, the bathhouse means changing lifts and taking off slippers on the way, and the car park is on the bathhouse side, a long walk from reception with luggage.

  3. 03

Dogs, including large dogs, can stay in dedicated rooms; they're allowed only in those rooms and the lobby.

  4. 04

Children are welcome, with kids' jinbei, children's meals (¥3,300) and baby food, but Yumemi is adults-and-teens only and families with preschoolers dine at Senjikian, not Kochūten.

  5. 05

Several 2026 reviews mention lapses in a well-run house — a private bath entered while in use, a mouldy teapot, insects in a special room, a loose bath fitting — and exterior works around June 2026 kept one guest's shoji closed.
