Consenso de huéspedes japoneses

Tamatsukuri's big, polished all-rounder: 108 rooms with plenty of free-flowing in-room onsen baths, a rooftop view bath, sea-bream rice and very high guest scores — but it's large enough for check-in queues, tour groups and a crowded breakfast

Kasuien Minami began as the annex of Minamikan, a Matsue inn founded in 1888, and is now one of Tamatsukuri Onsen's largest ryokan: 108 rooms across three wings, renovated in stages (most recently the Kisshō floor in July 2026). The water is Tamatsukuri's sodium-calcium sulphate-chloride spring — the classic 'beauty water', mildly alkaline and slightly salty — and many rooms have their own bath on the spring, which the inn describes as free-flowing; it doesn't say whether the public baths are recirculated. Japanese guests rate it highly everywhere: 4.7 across 2,113 reviews on one major site, 4.72 across 282 on another and 4.66 across 1,501 on a third. They praise spacious, spotless renovated rooms, kaiseki in private or semi-private dining rooms with Shimane wagyu, a seaweed hotpot and the Minami family's sea-bream rice (an add-on), a breakfast buffet of 50-plus dishes with Lake Shinji clam soup, and free lounges and a kids' room. The downsides of its size show in 2025–2026 reviews: a 50-minute wait to reach a room during a holiday week, staff coordination slips (a missed station pickup, a lost car key, wrong times), tour groups and a crowded breakfast, guests now carrying their own luggage, and room baths that run too hot or too cool. Two-person stays with two meals in 2024–2025 cost about ¥82,000–86,000.

Guía para elegir habitación

Recomendadas

  • Kumo-no-ne (雲のね, renewed 2017) and Kisshō (吉祥, renewed July 2026) in the Kita wing

All nine Kumo-no-ne rooms have a free-flowing onsen bath — a September 2026 guest on a cheaper plan found the window opened fully so it felt like an open-air bath. The renewed Kisshō suites (64–99㎡) have open-air baths and drew praise in September–October 2026 for space and cleanliness; in the DX-B type the second indoor bath isn't onsen.

  • Ten'yura (天ゆら) bed rooms and the 8th-floor premium suites in the Nishi wing

Modern bed-style rooms on the 6th–7th floors (some with a mist sauna or massage devices), and premium suites with free-flowing open-air baths on the 8th floor; premium plans include the Ametsuchi club lounge with free drinks. These wings use a self-service 'smart stay' model — you collect yukata and amenities yourself.

Mejor evitar

  • Lower-floor 'view' rooms and older fittings

A May 2026 guest's 3rd-floor 'view' room faced a neighbouring roof; an August 2026 guest found an old toilet in a renewed suite and another a musty smell in a Kumo-no-ne twin; a 2025 guest's private open-air bath had a bird net covered in droppings. Room baths come straight from a 60°C+ source, so expect to adjust the temperature yourself.

La cocina a fondo

Consenso sobre el desayuno

4.1/5

A buffet of 50-plus Japanese and Western dishes with Lake Shinji clam soup and a live kitchen (some rooms get a set breakfast) — praised, but crowded when tour groups are in, and a few 2026 guests found the quality slipping

Add the Minami family's sea-bream rice (¥1,430) if your plan doesn't include it. Reserve the station pickup (15:00–18:00) in advance; from November 2026 the return runs leave at 8:30, 9:30 and 10:10. Check the live crowd monitors before heading to the baths. Avoid holiday weeks if you dislike queues at check-in.

Claves de la cena

4.3/5

Kaiseki in private or semi-private dining rooms: guests from 2022 to 2026 mention Uppurui rock-seaweed hotpot, Shimane wagyu steak as one of three mains, crab courses in winter and sea-bream rice as the finishing rice on some plans (others get a different rice). Add-ons include sea bass baked in paper (for three or more), wagyu steak and abalone. Criticisms: overcooked wagyu (October 2026), dishes that were merely 'okay', and service slips in the dining room.

Onsen y bienestar: la realidad

Tipo de agua

Tamatsukuri's sodium-calcium sulphate-chloride spring (weakly alkaline, pH 8.4), colourless and slightly salty — a blend of four sources. The inn describes the in-room baths as free-flowing; it doesn't state how the public baths are run.

Privacidad y ambiente

Ground-floor baths that don't swap: the women's Ukifune (indoor, rock open-air, a shallow seated tub and a mist sauna) and the men's Ukidono (indoor and rock open-air, no sauna — two 2026 guests asked for one), open 15:00–24:30 and 5:00–9:30; plus the 9th-floor view baths for each sex (15:00–23:00, 6:00–9:30) and a garden with hand and foot baths. No private baths — the many rooms with onsen baths are the alternative. Guests mention hot water, a so-so view and few bath types; dry towels are provided.
