Consenso de huéspedes japoneses

Thirty-two Mt Fuji-facing suites, each with a lava-stone open-air bath and fireplace, and two MICHELIN Keys — but the Fuji view varies by room, the in-room baths don't appear to be free-flowing, and 2025–2026 guests complain of three-hour dinners and uneven service

FUFU Kawaguchiko is the Lake Kawaguchi outpost of the FUFU small-luxury chain: 32 suites from 59㎡ to 135㎡, every one facing Mt Fuji with its own open-air bath lined with Fuji lava and a bio-ethanol fireplace, and a theatre-style restaurant, Yamanoha, where every seat looks at the mountain. It holds two MICHELIN Keys in the 2026 Japan list. The water is the inn's own Nishikawa Onsen spring, a sodium-calcium sulphate spring; the inn doesn't say whether the room baths are free-flowing, and guests describe them as heated and recirculated, set around 42.5°C. Japanese guests rate it 4.54 across 85 reviews on one leading site (rooms 4.68) and 4.95 across 110 on another. They love the rooms, the bath with Fuji in front of it, the firewood-and-lava-stone kaiseki and the natto gratin at breakfast, and the free minibar. The complaints have grown in 2025–2026: dinners that run two and a half to three hours, a repeat guest who felt dishes had been cut back, check-in waits, rooms where Fuji is half-hidden by other buildings or the bath faces neighbouring wings, staff who seemed curt or rushed, and occasional bath-temperature and hot-water problems. Two-person stays with two meals start around ¥128,700–139,700 and reach about ¥300,000 for the top suite.

Guía para elegir habitación

Recomendadas

  • Kozue Precious Suite (梢, top floor) and the fourth-floor luxury suites

59–65㎡ on the 4th floor, chosen by a May 2025 guest so the lobby building stays out of the Fuji view; the 100–135㎡ FUFU Luxury suites on the same floor add a lava-stone bedrock sauna (and a hammock in the corner Premium suite). Beds are two Simmons doubles that can be joined. Still, a September 2025 guest in Kozue got only a 'half Fuji' and asked for views to be priced per room — ask for an unobstructed view when booking.

  • Komorebi Stylish Suite (木漏れ日, ground floor), the entry category

The cheapest suites can still have a clear Fuji view (2024), and every room has the same lava open-air bath and fireplace. Ground-floor rooms are more at the mercy of trees and weather (September 2024).

Mejor evitar

  • Tokiwagi Premium corner suites (常盤木, 86㎡) on lower floors

An August 2026 guest on the third floor felt it was small for FUFU and that the open-air bath faced other hotel buildings, raising privacy worries. A March 2026 guest wished for seating facing the window. Room-wear runs small (2026).

Consenso sobre el desayuno

4.1/5

Japanese breakfast at Yamanoha with kamado-cooked rice, kenchin soup and the much-loved natto gratin (a Western option on a second morning)

Book a taxi from Kawaguchiko Station (about ¥2,600; queues happen) — the hill is too steep to walk with luggage. Early check-in and late check-out cost ¥13,200 per hour. Ask for a faster dinner pace when you sit down, and ask whether bar treats such as s'mores are charged. Children are welcome, with cots, baby baths and kids' meals.

Claves de la cena

3.9/5

Kaiseki cooked over firewood, flame and lava stone at Yamanoha, with seatings from 18:00 to 20:30, rows of partitioned seats all facing Fuji and no in-room dining. Guests praise the flambé and firewood-grilled dishes (bonito in May 2025) and generous portions. The main complaint in 2025–2026 is pace: dinners of about two and a half to three hours, even after asking to speed up. Others found the flavours over-arranged or disappointing for the price (2026), and an eleven-time repeat guest felt the natto gratin and portions had been changed and reduced.

Onsen y bienestar: la realidad

Tipo de agua

The inn's own Nishikawa Onsen 'Reihō-no-yu', a sodium-calcium sulphate spring (weakly alkaline). The inn doesn't state whether baths are free-flowing; guests report the in-room baths are not free-flowing and are kept hot by recirculation (around 42.5°C, cooled with tap water).

Privacidad y ambiente

Every suite has an open-air bath of Fuji lava; the luxury suites add a lava bedrock sauna. The shared bath (15:00–24:00, 6:00–11:00) is small — about four people, four washing stations — with a dry sauna and cold plunge on the men's side and a mist sauna on the women's, and free beer, coffee milk and ice pops outside. Gripes in 2026: baths too hot, water that cooled on the second day and could only be adjusted by staff, and hot water cutting out in a shower.

Política sobre tatuajes

No policy found on the official site or Japanese booking sites — contact the inn. Every suite has its own open-air bath.

Rooms are available 15:00 to 11:00; extra hours cost ¥13,200 per hour per room.

  2. 02

No shuttle from Kawaguchiko Station; the inn sits at the top of a steep slope. Free parking for 28 cars.

  3. 03

The Fuji view differs room by room, and the inn doesn't price by view — ask when booking.

  4. 04

Check-in can mean a wait at the bar when groups arrive, and 2026 guests reported uneven service.

  5. 05

No club lounge and no in-room dining.
