Consenso de huéspedes japoneses

Hanamaki's top-tier inn: silky alkaline water from its own spring, in-room dinners with Maesawa beef, a free minibar and some of Tōhoku's highest guest scores — though the baths are part-recirculated and recent guests found the food banquet-like and the welcome cool

Kashoen is the flagship ryokan of the Hanamaki Onsen resort in Iwate, run by the same company as the resort's three larger hotels and set apart at the quiet end of the grounds; its fifth floor has a 40-mat VIP room, the Miyuki-no-ma, and the inn is a government-registered international tourist ryokan. Its pride is the water: the inn's own Daigawa spring, a sodium sulphate-chloride spring at pH 8.9 that guests almost unanimously call 'torotoro' — silky — although the inn says it runs on a combined flow-through and recirculation system with chlorine. Japanese guests rate it 4.8 across 728 reviews on one major site, 4.76 across 184 on another and 4.69 across 1,116 on a third, with baths and cleanliness at the top. Most rooms get dinner served in the room — seasonal kaiseki with Maesawa beef shabu-shabu and hittsumi soup, generous enough that leftover kamameshi comes back as night-time rice balls — and the in-room fridge (beer included) is free. Rooms renovated in 2022–2023 have hinoki semi-open-air or open-air baths on the spring, though several guests found the 'semi-open-air' bath more like an indoor tub with a window. The complaints in 2023–2026: menus that look like adapted banquet food, dry rice and lukewarm soups, a breakfast hall without partitions, a dry or mechanical welcome with no greeting at arrival or departure, central air conditioning you can't adjust, and pricey drinks. Plans start around ¥30,800 per person, or ¥36,300 for rooms with their own onsen bath.

Guía para elegir habitación

Recomendadas

  • Rooms renewed in 2022–2023 with an onsen bath

Japanese rooms (52.8㎡) and twins with a hinoki semi-open-air bath, and larger rooms (106–114㎡) with a hinoki open-air bath, all filled from the inn's own spring — 'just as silky' as the main bath, a 2025 guest wrote. Others found the semi-open-air bath more like an indoor hinoki tub with a window (2023), and an April 2026 guest in an open-air room found the water too hot, insects in the tub, a slow-to-heat outdoor shower and no cooling available that season. In the semi-open-air twins dinner is laid next to the beds, which two 2024 guests found cramped.

  • Standard 12-mat Japanese rooms (52.8㎡)

Spacious, with a hinoki bathroom and dinner served in the room; the inn doesn't say whether the standard rooms' hinoki baths use spring water, so plan on the main bath.

Mejor evitar

  • Older, unrenovated rooms and the small single

Guests in 2023–2026 noted a toilet odour in an older Japanese-Western room, a musty air purifier, an inward-opening toilet door, central air conditioning that can't be adjusted, and a sponge-like mattress. Twin and single rooms are excluded from in-room dinner, and a fully wheelchair-accessible room was missed by one 2025 guest.

Consenso sobre el desayuno

In a hall (7:00–9:00 start): an individual soy-milk or tofu hotpot, red salmon, the house seafood zuke and Iwate's Ginga no Shizuku rice, with free coffee in the lobby afterwards — some guests found the hall canteen-like, without partitions

Book the free station shuttle in advance — it doesn't run without a reservation (pickups from Shin-Hanamaki roughly 15:00–17:45). Help yourself to the free in-room fridge, including beer. You can also use the large baths at the resort's three sister hotels, which use a different spring. Official-site members get 10% off from October 2026.

Claves de la cena

4.2/5

Seasonal kaiseki served in your room (a dining hall on request) under head chef Tetsuya Motoi, with add-ons such as Maesawa beef shabu-shabu and wild abalone. 2023 menus included Maesawa beef shabu-shabu, sakura-shrimp or burdock kamameshi and hittsumi dumpling soup; portions are large and leftover rice returns as night-time onigiri. Criticisms from 2023 to 2026: dishes that look like adapted banquet food, bland or similar flavours, dry rice, lukewarm soups, weak desserts and expensive drinks.

Onsen y bienestar: la realidad

Tipo de agua

Hanamaki Onsen's Daigawa spring from the inn's own source: a sodium sulphate-chloride spring (pH 8.9, about 60°C), colourless with a faint sulphur smell. The inn states the large baths combine free-flowing and recirculated-filtered water, with chlorine.

Privacidad y ambiente

One large bath per gender on the 2nd floor, each with a stone indoor tub facing the forest, a roofed hinoki open-air tub for about five, a sauna and a cold plunge; open 13:00 to 11:00 the next day except 1:00–3:00, and the sides never swap. Towels, a shampoo bar and ReFa dryers are provided. Baths are the top-rated category on every site, though one 2025 guest noticed a disinfectant smell and another wished the open-air tub were bigger.

  1. 01

    Check-in 15:00 (last 19:00), check-out 11:00. Free parking shared with the resort.

  2. 02

The free station shuttle runs only if reserved.

  3. 03

Several guests from 2023 to 2026 found the welcome dry — no greeting on arrival or send-off — and one 2026 guest felt foreign guests were treated less warmly; the inn apologised in replies.

  4. 04

Families: child yukata and slippers, baby food on request and a free stroller loan are listed by a booking site; the official site has no stated child policy.

  5. 05

Room counts differ between sources (47–51), and the building can feel maze-like.
