Consenso de huéspedes japoneses

A 47-room hillside inn in Hirugami where dinner is grilled over charcoal at your own irori hearth in a private room, with a big rock open-air bath and baby-friendly rooms — but the water is recirculated, much of the building is ageing and 2026 reviews describe uneven, trainee-heavy service

'Yurui' is southern Shinshū dialect for 'sit by the hearth and stay a while', and the hearth is the point at Keizan, a 47-room inn on the rise above the Achi River in Hirugami Onsen. Its signature dinner is cooked over charcoal at your own irori in a private dining room — Shinshū beef, iwana char, local vegetables, oyaki and gohei-mochi, finished with soba suiton — and there's a regional kaiseki for those who'd rather not grill. Every room is on the fourth floor or higher, looking over the spa town, and the shared baths centre on a large rock garden open-air bath filled with Hirugami's slippery pH 9.7 water, which Jalan lists as heated and recirculated. The inn is certified 'Welcome Baby', so expect families. Japanese guests rate it 4.39 across 2,843 reviews on Rakuten Travel (service 4.54, baths 4.49) and 4.4 across 2,170 on Jalan; Ikyu's 35 reviews average 4.11. Bloggers who stayed between 2022 and 2025 loved the water and the sheer size of the irori spread, though a returning blogger in February 2024 found the food homely rather than special. In 2026, reviewers praise warm, attentive staff, private rooms for both meals, the soy-milk hotpot at breakfast and the easy pairing with the Heavens Sonohara stargazing tour. The 2026 complaints: creaking tatami, loud air conditioners and an ageing building outside the renovated 'Yuu' and 'Zen' rooms; staff in training who couldn't answer questions or explain the dishes, with no printed menu; courses arriving out of order or cold; seasoning some found too salty or too sweet; a lukewarm mist sauna; and stink bugs in October. Two-meal plans start at ¥18,700 per person on the official site, and most 2026 reviewers paid ¥20,000–30,000 or more per person.

Recomendadas

  • Renovated Keizan-tei Japanese-modern rooms 'Yuu' (twin beds) and 'Zen' (king-size bed)

Refurbished around 2023 and the best-reviewed rooms in the house. A February 2024 blogger in Yuu called it very clean, with space to step outside the window for stargazing; the March 2025 blogger found the bed room spacious and new, and 2025–2026 guests praise the view and the big TV. Zen had only a shower, no tub, in November 2025 (the large baths open late, so that guest didn't mind), and a March 2026 guest in Yuu was kept awake by noise from the floor above.

  • Keizan-tei 'Yurui' rooms (12.5 tatami plus a 4-tatami side room) or Kōrantei 'Nozomi' rooms (12.5 tatami plus a window-side sitting area)

The pick for families and groups: a party of three in May 2026 found the Yurui room roomy, a family in April 2026 liked having two separate rooms for sleeping, and four adults fitted comfortably in a Nozomi room in August 2026. Kōrantei's Welcome Baby rooms add baby futons, a bottle steriliser, a microwave and a baby bath (on Welcome Baby plans only), and parents in 2025–2026 rated them highly. The special room on Kōrantei's top floor combines a 10-tatami room, a living room and twin beds.

Mejor evitar

  • Standard Keizan-tei 'Megumi' rooms (10 tatami plus entry) and older rooms in both wings

The most-booked type and the most criticised. 2026 reviews mention creaking tatami and a pillar in the middle of the window (May), a stiff room-bath tap and a slow-flushing toilet (July), and, in a seventh-floor Kōrantei room, a roaring air conditioner and a TV that kept cutting out (August). Upper floors have the better view. On quiet nights the inn often upgrades guests for free, but one March 2026 pair of friends was moved to a double-bed room with no chairs.

Consenso sobre el desayuno

3.9/5

A Japanese set in a private dining room (7:30–8:30) with grated-yam rice, pickles and a soy-milk hotpot that several 2025–2026 guests singled out — though others found it plain and small next to dinner

On stargazing-ticket plans dinner moves to about 17:30 and you may have only an hour to eat. The inn runs no shuttle to Heavens Sonohara (about 15 minutes by car), so drive, ask the front desk to book a taxi or reserve the paid tour bus early. With the irori dinner, ask for plain rice before the meal starts if you don't want the soba suiton finish. The morning market is a 5–10-minute walk, and the big baths are quietest around 16:00.

Claves de la cena

4.1/5

Two styles, both served in private rooms across three dining areas: the irori course, where you grill Shinshū beef, iwana char, chicken tsukune, local vegetables, oyaki and gohei-mochi over charcoal alongside sashimi, horse-meat sashimi, carp simmered in sweet soy and steamed dishes, ending with mushroom soba suiton; or a regional kaiseki. A premium irori course adds more meat, and extras include carp (¥880), char 'bone sake' (¥2,640) and a Shinshū beef steak (¥3,850). Bloggers and 2026 guests praise the generous quantity and the fun of grilling at your own pace. Critics called it country home cooking (2024) and, in 2026, found it too salty or too sweet, too hot to grill in summer, served out of order or cold, with no menu card, pricey drinks and small portions on one stargazing plan (September).

Onsen y bienestar: la realidad

Tipo de agua

Hirugami's alkaline simple sulphur spring (pH 9.7), colourless with a slippery feel. Jalan lists the inn's baths as heated and recirculated with filtration, and a 2026 reviewer marked them down for not being free-flowing; the official site doesn't say. A blogger who wrote it up in February 2026 doubted it felt as alkaline as the stated pH.

Privacidad y ambiente

Each side has one indoor bath, a large rock garden open-air bath with two pouring spouts, and a mist sauna (15:00–22:00). The indoor baths are open from 11:00 to 9:00 the next morning and the outdoor baths until midnight and again from 6:00, with cleaning from 1:00 to 2:00; day visitors are also admitted (¥1,000). Reviewers find the baths roomy even when busy, though one found the outdoor bath lukewarm and others the sauna cool, with no cold plunge. The private bath 'Onriyu' (up to eight people) costs ¥4,000 for 40 minutes, 16:00–23:00, and is included in Welcome Baby plans; some found 40 minutes short and the single shower weak. Room baths aren't described as onsen.

Advertencias y matices locales

  1. 01

Check-in 15:00 (last arrival 19:00 on one booking site), check-out 10:00; dinner ends by 21:00. Accommodation tax of ¥300 per person (since June 2026) and bathing tax of ¥150 are charged on top.

  2. 02

Free pick-up from Iida Station and nearby stops for two or more guests if booked by phone in advance — but there's no shuttle to the stargazing tours.

  3. 03

A family-oriented inn: certified 'Welcome Baby', with toys, picture books and board games to borrow. Older primary-school children pay 70% of the adult rate, younger ones 50%.

  4. 04

No wheelchair-accessible rooms: there are small steps into the large baths and 18–21 cm steps into the private bath, though the inn has three lifts and lends wheelchairs.

  5. 05

The building is ageing outside the renovated rooms, and 2025–2026 reviews mention stink bugs in October, a cockroach in a changing room, karaoke noise in a room and stale tobacco smells — upkeep is uneven even where cleaning is praised.
