Đánh giá chung của du khách Nhật

Ureshino's century-old town-centre inn: Junzo Yoshimura architecture around a cedar garden, spring water in every room's bath and the famous 'melting' onsen tofu at breakfast — but the shared baths are recirculated, the much-extended building is a maze of stairs, and the dining hall is big and busy

Taishoya opened in April 1925 in the middle of Ureshino Onsen and grew, through decades of additions, into a 73-room inn wrapped around a garden of cedars. Its design is credited to Junzo Yoshimura, the architect of the basic design for the Imperial Palace's new palace, and a 2023 Rakuten Travel stay report points out one of the architect's touches: window-side sitting areas set a step lower, so you look out at garden level. Its sister inn Shiibasanso, which Taishoya opened up the valley in 1995, shares its baths — guests of either inn can use all four large baths free, linked by a shuttle. Japanese guests rate Taishoya 4.6 across 1,589 reviews on one major site (dinner 4.8, service 4.7), 4.46 across 1,292 on another and 4.49 across 150 on a third, and travelogues from 2023 to 2026 echo them: warm, attentive staff, a seasonal kaiseki on Arita porcelain with Saga beef, a breakfast of the inn's own 'melting' onsen tofu and Ureshino green-tea porridge that guests refill again and again, fresh flowers everywhere and a free drinks corner. Every room's bath is fed with spring water. The catches, dated 2026: an old, much-extended building full of stairs and level changes, small unit-style baths in main-building rooms, flat roofs outside some windows, cramped changing rooms in the shared baths — which one booking site lists as diluted and recirculated, with no open-air bath on site — and one large dining hall that can get noisy. An August 2026 guest found worn towels, hair on the bath floors and a musty futon, and a September 2026 regular found dinner saltier and plainer than before. Two-meal stays for two run about ¥47,000–73,000 in standard rooms.

Nên chọn

  • Garden-side Japanese rooms in the Hanare wing (庭園側和室, first or second floor)

8–10-tatami rooms set in a staggered line around the cedar garden, with windows on two sides and the sunken window-side sitting area; the 2023 Rakuten Travel stay report found a hinoki bath of free-flowing spring water. A couple in May 2026 could step straight out into the well-kept garden ('exactly the room we hoped for'), one blogger spent four nights in a Hanare room in December 2023, and families with toddlers in 2025–2026 loved the garden view. Bath type and floor can't be chosen; on Rakuten Travel a two-meal stay for two runs about ¥66,500–83,500.

  • East-wing two-room suites (東館客室) and the special rooms — Shōkintei (松琴亭), Shūhōtei (衆芳亭), Suishō (水昌) and Kiku (菊)

East-wing rooms have two rooms and a large hinoki bath that Rakuten Travel sells as 100% free-flowing spring water (about ¥87,000–104,000 for two on Rakuten Travel). Shōkintei on the fifth floor (12 plus 10 tatami) is the only room that also has an open-air rock bath — 'the height of luxury', a February 2026 guest wrote; Shūhōtei is a detached special room with its own garden and a tea room; a family of five in Suishō in August 2026 praised the space and the garden panorama. Even here, an April 2026 couple in the east wing found the bath small and the many steps tiring.

Nên tránh

  • Main-building (本館) rooms — twins, 10-tatami and Japanese-Western rooms, the cheapest types

About ¥47,000–60,000 for two in a twin (a 10-tatami room with two beds, no children sharing) and ¥58,000–73,000 in a 10-tatami room. Most guests are happy, but an August 2026 guest in a 10-tatami room found a combined toilet-washbasin-bath unit, worn towels, a futon that smelled and a view nothing like the photos; a March 2026 traveller with bad knees struggled in a Japanese-Western room with a shared toilet-washroom; an April 2026 family looked out only onto a flat roof; and a November 2025 regular called the twin 'not large'. The single barrier-free Western twin on the third floor has a wide washroom and an electric bed.

Nhận định về bữa sáng

4.6/5

A Japanese set breakfast in the Heian-no-ma dining hall (7:00–9:00) built around Taishoya's own 'melting' onsen yudōfu, with shijimi miso soup, grilled fish and a choice of Ureshino terraced-paddy rice or green-tea porridge (you can have both) — the most praised meal of the stay, with tofu refills offered; one 2025 guest missed a buffet with bread and eggs

Check in early: guests who arrived after 18:00 had no time for the baths, and the free shuttle to Shiibasanso's riverside Shiiba-no-yu runs only from 16:00 to 19:30, every 30 minutes. Otherwise ask the front desk for a same-day ticket to bathe there after check-out, ideally on a weekday morning — on a Sunday in November 2025 it was crowded with day visitors. Book the free pickup from Ureshino-Onsen Station ahead; it isn't a scheduled service. The tofu is made each morning from local Fukuyutaka soybeans, and take-home sets are sold in the shop and at Yudōfu Honpo, two minutes' walk away.

Điểm đáng chú ý của bữa tối

4.4/5

A seasonal kaiseki in the Heian-no-ma dining hall (start between 18:00 and 19:00), served mainly on Arita porcelain, with Taishoya's selected beef or — on the most popular plan — a Saga-beef hot plate you cook yourself, plus Ariake Sea fish and tofu dishes from the inn's own workshop; the 2023 stay report counted 12 courses ending in Saga-beef shabu-shabu. Most 2025–2026 reviewers found it generous and carefully made, and the anniversary plan adds celebration chopsticks, red rice, a gift and a photo. Critics: dishes laid out in advance and not hot (July 2026), sashimi that wasn't fresh (October 2025), a saltier, plainer menu (September 2026), food set out under paper covers (August 2026), and a large shared hall with no private rooms (October 2026), where big family groups made it noisy in April 2026. Extra dishes such as steak or sashimi can be ordered by the day before.

Onsen và thư giãn: thực tế ra sao

Loại nước

Ureshino's sodium bicarbonate-chloride spring (hypotonic, weakly alkaline, 85–95°C at the source) from the inn's own well — the slippery 'skin-beautifying' water Ureshino is known for. One major booking site lists the shared baths as diluted with water and recirculated through filters. The in-room baths are fed with spring water: the east-wing rooms are sold as 100% free-flowing, the 2023 stay report found the same in a Hanare room (fill the tub before dinner so the very hot water can cool), and a May 2026 guest found the in-room water far better than the shared baths.

Sự riêng tư và không gian

Two large indoor baths, separated by gender, and no true open-air bath on site. Shiki-no-yu is a bright, glass-walled bath among plants — men on the second floor, women up the stairs on the third, with a stair lift — renovated in April 2024 and open to day visitors (¥1,300; guests 6:00–9:30 and 12:00–23:00). The guests-only Taki-no-yu, renovated in February 2023, looks onto a garden waterfall and koi, with a mist sauna (15:00–24:00 and 5:00–12:00). Guests love the koi and the soft water, but 2026 reviews mention cramped changing rooms where people queue undressed for lockers, few washing stations, hair left on the floors and very hot water. A free shuttle runs to Shiibasanso's riverside open-air Shiiba-no-yu and Yama-no-yu. No private (kashikiri) baths.

No policy found on the official site or Japanese booking sites — contact the inn. Every room has its own spring-water bath.

Lưu ý và những điều tinh tế

  1. 01

Check-in 15:00, check-out 10:00 — earlier than some would like. Dinner must start between 18:00 and 19:00, and breakfast is 7:00–9:00.

  2. 02

The building has been extended many times since 1925: expect long corridors, stairs and level changes that several 2025–2026 guests travelling with elderly relatives found hard, and the women's Shiki-no-yu is up a flight of stairs. The inn recommends its main-building Japanese rooms (floors 5–7, reached by ramp and lift) for wheelchair users, and has one barrier-free twin.

  3. 03

It's a big, busy house with 73 rooms, and all meals are served in one large dining hall rather than private rooms, so families and groups can make it lively.

  4. 04

Children are welcome: child rates are offered, there are toys in the women's bath, and rice porridge can be prepared on request (bring your own baby food). Twins sleep two only, with no children sharing beds.

  5. 05

Getting there: Ureshino-Onsen Station on the West Kyushu Shinkansen is about 5 minutes away by car, with free pickup if booked ahead (not a scheduled service); highway buses stop at Ureshino IC, where the inn will also collect you. Free parking for 150 cars, with two EV chargers for guests.
