Đánh giá chung của du khách Nhật

Kaiseki served course by course in your room at both meals, a wall of mountain view and three bath houses of the inn's own kinsen — at a classic price, but it's a modern block where you fetch your own yukata, and the in-room and private baths aren't onsen

Korokan is the modern, multi-storey half of Gekkoen, a family of inns in business since 1952 on the quiet southern edge of Arima, linked by the Gekkō bridge to its older sister building. Its draw is one the inn itself calls rare these days: in the Japanese rooms, both dinner and breakfast are kaiseki served in your room, one dish at a time over about two hours, while every room except the singles looks straight onto Mt. Ochiba and the river below. Guests can bathe in three places: Korokan's own large bath with an outdoor tub and sauna, plus the sister building's two baths, including riverside outdoor tubs the inns describe as free-flowing. All use the inns' own sodium chloride kinsen well (31.2°C, heated). Most recent evidence comes from booking-site reviews: it rates 4.54 across 1,697 reviews on Rakuten Travel (dinner 4.66, facilities 4.36) and 4.33 across 90 on Ikyu. Reviewers in 2025–2026 praise the gentle Kyoto-style kaiseki with Ise lobster and Kobe beef, the three-bath circuit and, again and again, surprise touches for birthdays and anniversaries. The catches: 13 of the 33 rooms are Western-style, and those guests eat in a restaurant, not in-room; the in-room open-air tubs and the three private baths are not onsen, by the inn's own account; yukata and toiletries are collected from the lobby and towels carried to the baths; drinks are expensive; and 2026 reviews mention dusty or dated Western rooms, a confusing layout between buildings and, from one repeat guest, sullen service. Two-meal plans run about ¥26,400–46,200 per person, or ¥47,300–62,700 with an open-air bath.

Nên chọn

  • Upper-floor Japanese rooms with an open-air bath — the 12-mat 'Zekkei' rooms, 701 (opened August 2024) and 801 'Taishō Roman' (April 2026)

Mountain-view tubs, in-room meals and, in 701 and 801, a bedroom with two beds next to the 12-mat tatami room. 2026 reviewers praised the fresh-green views (May) and a spotless room bath (August), and parents of four-month-old twins found the room bath, in-room meals and private bath made it easy (July). Expect about ¥47,300–62,700 per person with two meals. The inn's FAQ says room baths aren't onsen, describing these tubs as radon water; a June 2026 guest in one of these rooms found a centimetre-wide crack in the concrete balcony.

  • Standard 12-mat Japanese room, or the 15+8-mat room with a second room

Roomy (up to five or seven people), with a broad window-side sitting area, two washbasins and both meals served in the room, from about ¥26,400 per person on the 30-day early-booking plan. The 15+8-mat room has the biggest window and two toilets. For beds, the April 2026 'Japandi' room 601 and 'Natural' room 501 add a bedroom; a September 2026 repeat guest liked the new smell and modern beds.

Nên tránh

  • Western rooms — singles, twins and semi-suites

Guests in Western rooms eat in the Yumiharizuki restaurant, not in their room. Twins are 20.5㎡ with a unit bath (some put the beds head-to-head in 17㎡), and singles are 11㎡ with no view. In 2026 a semi-suite guest found dust, a unit bath and a tiny TV (March), a twin guest found the room dated with a high step to the toilet (July), and another found the route between buildings confusing (October). A solo blogger in 2024 found the single roomier than feared, though one 2025 guest thought ¥14,300 room-only too much.

Nhận định về bữa sáng

4.2/5

A Japanese breakfast of many small dishes, served in your room if you're in a Japanese room (7:30–9:00) — scored 4.61 on Rakuten, though a March 2026 guest called it ordinary with hard rice and an August 2026 guest wished the fish were freshly grilled

Phone the shuttle (078-903-5503) when you reach the station or bus stop rather than walking the hill. Mention any birthday or anniversary when booking — several 2025–2026 guests were given sekihan, gifts or celebration props. Book private baths ahead by phone or email; they can be full by check-in. Ask for a high-backed floor chair if sitting on cushions is hard.

Điểm đáng chú ý của bữa tối

4.3/5

Kyoto-style kaiseki of about 12 courses, using Akashi seafood and Tamba produce, brought one dish at a time from 17:30–19:30 (about two hours); plans add Kobe beef grilled or as sukiyaki, or the 'Mangetsu' menu with Ise lobster sashimi. 2026 reviewers singled out the Ise lobster, tuna, Kobe beef fillet, anago sushi and sea-bream rice, and a 2023 blogger was pleasantly surprised it wasn't a buffet. Critics found portions modest (March 2026), the same menu in December and January (a January 2026 review), a 'grilled' Kobe beef brought ready-plated, and drinks very dear — draft beer ¥1,100, wine from about ¥20,000 (June 2026). Late-night Kobe-beef ramen is sold 20:00–23:00.

Onsen và thư giãn: thực tế ra sao

Loại nước

The inns' own sodium chloride well — Arima's rust-red kinsen — at 31.2°C, so it is heated. The official site markets the sister building's riverside outdoor tubs as free-flowing (kake-nagashi) but doesn't say whether Korokan's own bath is. The inn's FAQ says in-room baths are not onsen, describing the open-air tubs in the view rooms as radon water; the three private baths are not onsen either.

Sự riêng tư và không gian

Korokan's ground-floor large bath has one side for each gender (Kinpa for men, Ginpa for women, no swap; 6:00–8:00 and 9:00–24:00), each with an indoor bath, outdoor tub and sauna facing Mt. Ochiba. Across the bridge, the sister building adds two large baths and the riverside Afuku and Tamahoko outdoor tubs (15:00–24:00, from 12:00 at weekends). Private cave, hinoki and wine baths cost ¥4,400 for 40 minutes, last slot 22:30; the hinoki one is wheelchair-accessible. Guests warn that someone standing in Korokan's outdoor tub can be seen from across the river, that the semi-open cave bath is freezing in January and that changing rooms have open baskets, not lockers.

Lưu ý và những điều tinh tế

  1. 01

Check-in 15:00–19:00, check-out 12:00. Online booking opens about 5–6 months ahead. Cancellation (1–30 people): free until 8 days before, 30% from 7 days, 50% from 2 days, 100% on the day or no-show.

  2. 02

Amenities are self-service: yukata, loungewear and toiletries are collected at the third-floor lobby, towels are carried from your room to the baths, and drinking water comes from a corridor dispenser rather than bottles — several 2026 guests felt this didn't match the price.

  3. 03

Korokan is a modern multi-storey building connected to its older sister building by a bridge and corridors; first-time guests report getting lost. The inn sits at the far edge of town up a steep road, so most guests use the free shuttle (8:00–19:00).

  4. 04

Children are welcome: 70% of the adult rate with adult-style meals, 50% with a children's meal, ¥3,850 for ages 3–5 without meals or bedding, under-2s free. The top-floor Royal Suite takes only two adults aged 12+. No pets, all rooms non-smoking, no day-trip bathing.

  5. 05

Service is usually praised, but not uniformly: a May 2026 repeat guest reported sighing, futons tossed down and no farewell, a January 2026 guest found staff subdued, and a December 2025 guest's bath towel was taken from an open basket.
