Đánh giá chung của du khách Nhật

A 39-room lakeside inn with its own jade-tinted spring in Art Deco tiled, tatami-floored baths, every meal in a private dining room and a free guided bus to all four Suwa Taisha shrines — but the shared baths are indoor, recirculated and chlorinated, and only eight suites have their own bath

Shinyu opened in April 2011 on Kamisuwa's lakeshore road as the town sister of Tateshina Shinyu, a mountain inn its family company has run since 1926. Renovations between 2022 and 2024 gave the 39-room building its mix of Art Deco and Japanese styling: ink-painting murals of Suwa by a Russian sumi-e artist, a lobby lit by a colour-changing cherry-blossom installation, and a whisky bar. The draw is threefold: the inn's own Bisui spring (60°C, 50 tonnes a day, which the inn calls unique in Kamisuwa) in tiled baths with tatami floors; dinner and breakfast in private dining rooms; and a free guided bus to all four Suwa Taisha shrines, which many guests call the highlight of their stay. Most recent evidence comes from booking-site reviews rather than blogs. Japanese guests rate it 4.7 across 2,543 reviews on one major site (service 4.8, baths 4.3), 4.58 across 2,160 on another (service 4.69, baths 4.49) and 4.59 across 95 on a third. They praise unusually attentive staff — from greetings in the car park to careful explanations by staff in 2026 — the vegetable-rich Shinshu kaiseki, the pickle buffet at breakfast and summer fireworks seen from lake-front rooms. The catches: the inn's own notice says the shared baths are recirculated and chlorinated, they are indoor only, and a February 2026 guest smelled nothing but chlorine; only eight suites have their own bath; and 2026 reviews mention thin partitions that let voices carry at dinner, food some found flat, a no-view room facing a wall, and cockroaches in two rooms in July. Two meals cost about ¥21,000–24,000 per person in standard rooms and from ¥32,000 per person in the suites.

Nên chọn

  • Biko no Shizuku (美湖の雫) suites with open-air onsen bath, 5F–7F

Eight lake-view rooms renovated in August 2022: a 55㎡ semi-suite on 5F, 75㎡ suites on 6F and the 80㎡ top-floor suite on 7F (from about ¥32,000, ¥34,000 and ¥37,000 per person on weekdays for two). Each has a bath of the inn's spring facing the lake, listed by a booking site as free-flowing; they are built to universal-design standards with up to four beds, one of them electric (the 7F suite has a step). An October 2026 family travelling with a parent who has trouble walking found it ideal. Complaints: in June 2026 the bath water looked unchanged (the inn says the flecks are natural mineral deposits and the tub is refilled daily); in August 2026 a guest slipped on the wet stone getting out and found the shower weak, the toilet cramped and hair left on the floor; in September 2026 the electric bed's frame stuck out enough to bump into.

  • Kōjin (光神) lake-side Japanese rooms, for value

The 10-tatami rooms with beds on 5F (from about ¥23,000 per person) look straight over the lake; the 12-tatami low-floor rooms (from ¥20,000) see it through trees. A blogger who posted in May 2024 found a coffee machine, bottled water and both yukata and pyjamas in a 5F room, and timed the lake sunset with the staff's help — though the big window is fixed and opens only a crack, with no balcony. A 2026 guest in a lake-front tatami room watched the summer fireworks straight ahead.

Nên tránh

  • Kakei (嘉景, town side) and An'ei (安嬰, no view) rooms, and the Yamagami (山神) Japanese-Western rooms

The cheapest rooms (from about ¥17,500–18,000 per person) have no lake view: in September 2026 an An'ei guest opened the window onto a wall, and a Kakei guest found the amenities pared back with no coffee. In July 2026 a regular guest in Kakei room 222 found a cockroach and heard the boiler at intervals all night; the same month a family in a 12-tatami Kōjin room found one in the yukata, and staff took a long time to deal with it. An October 2026 guest in the Yamagami rooms (45.95㎡, partial lake view, from ¥25,000) found only a shower booth, no bathtub.

Nhận định về bữa sáng

4.3/5

A healthy Shinshu set on small Kutani-ware plates in your private dining room: warm tofu, salad with Chino kanten (agar), miso soup with kanten, Suwa Koshihikari rice and a buffet of additive-free local pickles. Most love it, but in 2026 some found it too vegetable-heavy, with little to eat with the rice, and the pickles salty

Book the free shrine bus by phone at least 3 days ahead: it leaves at 9:20 and 13:20 for a guided tour of about three hours of all four Suwa Taisha shrines, can be taken before check-in or after check-out and drops you at Kami-Suwa Station (no service on 31 December, New Year, 31 July–1 August, 15 August or new-fireworks days; windows stay open, so dress warmly in winter). Ask the front desk for the sunset time — the mountains bring it about 10 minutes early. Dinner slots go in order of arrival, so check in early for a good time.

Điểm đáng chú ý của bữa tối

4.3/5

Bikozen, the head chef's creative kaiseki keyed to the 24 solar terms of the old calendar, is served in private rooms of the Biko restaurant (chairs or tatami, with rooms wide enough for wheelchairs), starting between 17:30 and 19:30. The blogger's early-summer dinner included a box of small starters with fig and kanten, a puréed soup, barracuda grilled with summer vegetables in soy koji, soba with the inn's own shichimi, domestic sirloin shabu-shabu ('so good I nearly fainted') and kanten tart. In 2026 most reviewers praised the local ingredients and pacing, but others found the courses lacking highlights (October), starters straight from the fridge and lukewarm chazuke (September), the dining room hot (August), or too little for a teenager (February). The 'private' rooms are partitioned: in May 2026 a suite guest heard loud groups several sections away.

Bisui, the inn's own spring: about 60°C, 50 tonnes a day, pale jade-green, smooth and on the cool side in the bath. The inn's posted hygiene notice says the shared baths are recirculated, filtered and continuously chlorinated (fully drained weekly), and a booking site lists them as not free-flowing, with water added. The same booking site lists the private baths and the suite baths as free-flowing 100% spring water, with water added. The official site does not publish the spring's chemical type.

Sự riêng tư và không gian

Two shared indoor baths — the women's on 2F, the men's on 3F, reached by stairs — tiled in Art Deco style with iron-framed windows, a sauna and tatami flooring that's warm and hard to slip on. The women's side adds an 'air bath' lined with antique Peranakan tiles and ReFa showerheads and dryers. A booking site lists them as open round the clock apart from cleaning from 1:00 to 4:00 and 9:30 to 12:00. Quince juice and cold water wait in the changing rooms. A booking site lists no open-air tub; a September 2026 guest said only the men's side has one, and several guests wished for one with a lake view. Three private baths cost ¥2,000 for 40 minutes, booked at the front desk on arrival (some found 40 minutes rushed); one has a lifting floor for wheelchair users (¥4,000 for 60 minutes, booked ahead by phone). Bath covers for surgical scars are lent free. No day visitors; children may enter the opposite sex's bath only up to age 6.

Lưu ý và những điều tinh tế

  1. 01

Check-in 15:00 (phone if you'll arrive well after 17:00), check-out 10:00 (paid extensions available). Cancellation fees start 10 days out: 20%, rising to 30% from 7 days, 50% from 3 days, 70% the day before and 100% on the day. Since June 2026 a ¥200 Nagano lodging tax and ¥150 bathing tax per person per night are added.

  2. 02

Allergies: the kitchen removes only six allergens (egg, milk, shrimp, crab, peanut, buckwheat), with at least a week's notice; wheat can't be removed, and vegetarian, vegan and halal meals aren't offered.

  3. 03

A free shuttle runs from Kami-Suwa Station between 9:00 and 17:00 (call on arrival; it can't take wheelchairs). Parking is free, for about 40 cars, and several 2026 guests were met and waved off by staff in the car park.

  4. 04

Accessibility is a real strength: wheelchair-friendly suites, a lift-floor private bath, wheelchair-sized dining rooms, lifts and staff trained in accessible travel. Children are welcome, with two kinds of children's meal; pets are not allowed.

  5. 05

Summer 2026 reviews raised upkeep issues — cockroaches in two rooms in July, a previous guest's bottle left in a suite in September — and an October 2026 guest found the lobby and breakfast noisy with large groups.
