Hamachidori no Yu Kaishu (Kyoritsu Resort)
浜千鳥の湯 海舟(共立リゾート)
Ảnh khu vực — không phải ảnh ryokan · Shirarahama Beach, Shirahama, Wakayama · 663highland / CC BY 2.5
A 109-room cliff-top resort-ryokan with free-flowing baths, three free private open-air tubs and a mixed bath at the water's edge — but all except the ten cottages have heated plain water in the room bath, and 2026 reviews report crowds and patchy service
Kaishu is run by Kyoritsu Resort, the group behind the Dormy Inn hotels, and it stands on a headland over the Pacific with 109 rooms, a rose garden and a sunset lookout. The big draw is the water. Two springs — the sodium chloride-bicarbonate Aiki spring (55.5°C) and the sulphurous Monju spring (58.8°C) — supply the main baths, free-flowing with water added. Three private open-air baths sit along a path down the cliff, free and first-come, and 90 steps lead down to Hamachidori, a mixed open-air bath beside the waves that you enter in a bathing wrap. Almost every room has its own open-air tub facing the sea, but the inn's room pages say only the ten Hamaya cottages get spring water; the rest are heated plain water, which guests in 2024 and 2026 confirmed. Japanese guests rate it 4.37 across 3,649 reviews on one major site (baths 4.46), 4.5 across 120 on another and 4.33 across 209 on a third (baths 4.57, service 4.18). Bloggers who stayed in 2024–2026 praised the funamori sashimi kaiseki, the free lounge drinks (beer included) until 17:00, popsicles after the bath and Wakayama-style late-night ramen. The complaints in 2026 recur: summer crowds and children everywhere, a full ramen lounge, slow and uneven service, mould and dirty windows in some rooms, a fishy smell in the main bath, insects outdoors, and people staring in the mixed bath. Two-meal stays run about ¥22,000–50,000 per person; one cottage stay with the special kaiseki cost ¥130,000 for two in August 2026.
Hướng dẫn chọn phòng
Những gì du khách từng ở đây thực sự khuyênNên chọn
Hamaya cottages (浜屋 離れ) — single-storey (60㎡, 8 rooms) or maisonette (92㎡, 2 rooms)
The rooms closest to the sea, each with its own entrance, and the only ones whose open-air bath is free-flowing Aiki spring water. A May 2026 reviewer called the cottage and its bath 'the best'. They cost the most — one August 2026 couple paid ¥130,000 with the special kaiseki and still left disappointed by the food and the crowds — and a spring 2025 blogger noted that the outdoor walk to the main building would be a chore in the rain.
Akatsuki (暁の抄) and Nami (波の抄) sea-view rooms on upper floors
49㎡ (Akatsuki) and 41㎡ (Nami) Japanese-Western rooms with beds, tatami and a terrace tub facing the sea; a January 2024 blogger found a fourth-floor Nami room roomy, and an August 2026 family loved a top-floor 49㎡ sea-view twin's bath. Book a sea-side ('海側') room — garden-side rooms exist, and a May 2026 guest in Nami room 'to' found the view partly blocked.
Nên tránh
The 19㎡ Western doubles, and the room baths in general
The 15 doubles have only a shower (a solo traveller who stayed four nights in spring 2025 was upgraded to a fifth-floor corner room but used the shared baths). In every non-cottage room the open-air tub is 'heated water' (沸かし湯), not onsen, and in January 2024 it had to be filled by hand. In August 2026 one reviewer found mould and an uncleaned tub, another dirty windows; there is one key per room and the doors don't lock automatically.

Nhận định về bữa sáng
4.1/5A set Japanese breakfast (grilled mackerel and dried fish you finish yourself, tuna, rice for 'three bowls') or a Western plate with omelette and Kishu plum-egg bread pudding, plus a small self-serve counter, 7:00–10:00 — praised for volume, though a sixth-time guest in June 2026 found the buffet side much thinner than before
Free drinks — umé juice, coffee, beer and shōchū — are poured in the lounge from 15:00 to 17:00, with warabi-mochi and kamaten snacks for 20:00 diners; the free ramen opens at 22:00 and the queue starts about 15 minutes early. Ask for a window seat at dinner: a May 2024 blogger got no view at dinner and was moved to the window counter at breakfast. Bath towels aren't left at the baths, so carry the basket from your room.
Điểm đáng chú ý của bữa tối
4.2/5Two kaiseki in separate dining rooms, at 17:30 or 20:00: Kishu Funamori, built around a boat of sashimi with whale dishes and mehari-zushi, or Kumano beef and abalone in the Umihotaru room, plus a premium Ise-ebi, abalone and Kumano beef kaiseki and a seasonal kue (longtooth grouper) hotpot menu. 2024–2025 bloggers described tuna, turban shell, Ise-ebi miso soup and fried fugu, with a choice of extra dishes — 'the most satisfying' Kyoritsu dinner one had eaten. Critics in 2026 waited 15 minutes for drinks and between courses, and one couple found the cottage special kaiseki 'pretty bad'.
Onsen và thư giãn: thực tế ra sao
Two springs: the Aiki spring (sodium chloride-bicarbonate, 55.5°C) and the Monju spring (sulphur-sodium chloride, hydrogen-sulphide type, 58.8°C). The inn calls the main and private baths free-flowing; its spec sheet notes water is added, and a September 2026 reviewer was told the water is disinfected. Room baths are heated plain water except in the Hamaya cottages.
Main baths Umi-tsubaki (men's and women's, hinoki indoor baths, a rock and a hinoki-barrel outdoor tub, sauna and cold plunge; 15:00–10:00). Three free private open-air baths (no booking — take the key at the bath counter; 15:00–24:00 and 5:00–10:00), reached by steps down the cliff. The mixed Hamachidori bath at the shoreline needs the inn's thick bathing wraps; bloggers in 2024 and 2025 found it nearly empty, but an August 2026 reviewer warned of men staring. Complaints include mosquitoes in the outdoor tubs, very hot water, a hot sauna bench and the climb back up.
The inn's FAQ says guests with tattoos may not use the main baths and asks them to use the private open-air baths instead.

What to pack for a ryokan stay in Japan (and what the inn already gives you)
A ryokan packing list based on real inns: what a Japanese inn normally provides (yukata, towels, slippers, toiletries) and the exceptions our research records, what to wear with a yukata, socks for tatami rooms, a small bath bag for onsen towns, the things often missing (toothbrush, hair dryer, sockets, earplugs), cash for bath tax and bath passes, and how to travel light by sending your suitcase ahead.
