Đánh giá chung của du khách Nhật

The closest hotel to Kusatsu's Yubatake, with two free-flowing springs and a much-praised live-kitchen buffet — but only 23 rooms see the hot-spring field, most rooms are dated, and it's a big, busy house with long corridors

Hotel Ichii traces its founding to the Edo period, more than 300 years ago, and calls itself the hotel closest to the Yubatake: its main building stands right across the street from Kusatsu's steaming hot-spring field, with a big souvenir shop on the ground floor. It's a large, three-building hotel, and only 23 rooms look onto the Yubatake — 20 ten-tatami Japanese rooms and three executive rooms on the eighth floor, renovated in March 2024. The baths, in the annex, are the main draw: the inn draws on two of Kusatsu's six main sources — the milky Shirahata spring for the indoor bath, which was renovated in 2021 with three tubs at different temperatures, and the clear, highly acidic Bandai spring for the open-air bath — both free-flowing. Since October 2024 most guests eat at Tōun, a buffet with a live kitchen serving Jōshū beef steak, roast beef and made-to-order sushi; a teppanyaki course in a Taishō-romance dining room is the alternative. Japanese guests rate it 4.7 across 4,424 reviews on one major site (dinner 4.8, rooms 4.1) and 4.63 across 3,276 on another. Reviewers in 2025–2026 praise the location, the buffet, the three-temperature baths and attentive staff. The recurring complaints: dated rooms with air conditioning you can barely adjust, a 3–4 minute walk with two lifts from the main building to the baths, an open-air bath walled in by screens, a 90-minute dinner and 60-minute breakfast limit, and waits for valet-parked cars. Two-meal stays start at about ¥39,600 for two; most 2026 reviewers on one site paid ¥19,000–26,000 per person.

Hướng dẫn chọn phòng

Nên chọn

  • Yubatake-view ten-tatami Japanese rooms (main building, 4th–7th floors, 20 rooms)

The reason to stay here: guests in July–September 2026 describe watching the illuminated Yubatake from the window at night. Book the 'Yubatake view' (湯畑眺望) plan specifically — the cheaper 'building and view not specified' plan can land you anywhere. Rooms are plain and old — 2026 reviewers call the building dated but well cleaned — and the walk to the baths takes two lifts and a corridor.

  • Executive rooms 801–803 (main building, 8th floor, Yubatake side)

Renovated in March 2024: two Simmons double beds, a tatami room and an indoor-terrace living area with an electric fireplace, a projector and espresso machine, individually controlled air conditioning and three free lounge coins each. A September 2026 guest loved the top-floor view of the lit-up Yubatake, but found there's no ice machine (ice costs ¥400 from the front desk) and had to ask for the included coins. There's a rain shower but no bathtub. Rooms 804–806 are the same but face the mountains.

Nên tránh

  • Standard rooms with no view specified, and the annex bed-and-tatami rooms

The inn assigns the building and view, and says some rooms have poor views. The four annex bed rooms on the fifth floor have frosted windows over the car park and may hear outdoor air-conditioning units; discounted annex rooms on the eighth floor sit under the buffet hall (one August 2025 guest heard nothing). Standard rooms have central air conditioning with only a low-medium-high switch — in August 2026 one guest was too hot in the main building and another too cold in the annex. In-room baths are not hot-spring water. The cheapest West Wing rooms involve the longest walk from the front desk.

Nhận định về bữa sáng

4.4/5

Buffet at Tōun (sittings from 6:45 and 7:45) with live-kitchen rice balls, omelettes and French toast and a blueberry smoothie you can take to your room — loved by nearly every 2025–2026 reviewer, though a June 2026 guest found the 60-minute limit too short

Book direct on the official site if you can: the inn warns that overseas booking sites, Agoda included, have sold rooms on nights it was full and that it can't confirm, change or cancel those bookings. Arriving early, use the guest-only Sakura lounge (main building, 2nd floor) for free coffee and the best view of the Yubatake; sake and wine cost coins sold at the front desk. Parking is valet at ¥500 a night and you can leave the car from noon to noon — but allow 20 minutes for it to be brought back at checkout.

Điểm đáng chú ý của bữa tối

4.4/5

Most plans use the Tōun buffet (annex, 9th floor, opened October 2024; two sittings between 17:30 and 21:30, 90 minutes each): live-kitchen Jōshū beef steak and roast beef, sukiyaki, tempura, sushi made to order (up to four pieces at a time) and the okami's own meatloaf recipe. Reviewers say it's far above typical buffet standard. Complaints: queues and hurried staff at the sushi counter, crab of poor colour, underdone tempura batter, desserts running out late, and a crowd at the drinks counter at opening. The other option is a set course at Kimi no Roman (main building, 2nd floor), with a choice of meat or fish cooked on the teppan — or both, with Jōshū sirloin, on the upgraded course.

Onsen và thư giãn: thực tế ra sao

Loại nước

Two sources, both listed by the inn as 100% natural and free-flowing (kakenagashi): the indoor bath uses the Yubatake-front Shirahata spring (acidic sulphur–aluminium–sulphate–chloride, pH 2.06, 55.5°C at source, slightly cloudy), and the open-air bath the Bandai spring from Mt Shirane (acidic sulphate–chloride, pH 1.70, 95.4°C at source, clear). In-room baths are not spring water.

Sự riêng tư và không gian

Shared baths only, in the annex (open 15:00–26:00 and 5:00–10:00, swapping between men and women). The Sekiden indoor bath was renovated in August 2021 with three tubs at about 38°C, 41–42°C and 43–44°C — reviewers love being able to choose. The Sekitei open-air bath is small and enclosed by screens, so it feels hemmed in; it's quiet late at night. Floors are slippery, and there's no sauna. No private baths.

Quy định về hình xăm

Not allowed: the official site asks guests with tattoos not to use the large bath or open-air bath. There is no private bath, and in-room baths are not hot-spring water.

Lưu ý và những điều tinh tế

  1. 01

Check-in 15:00–18:00, check-out 10:00. The inn will hold luggage before check-in and after checkout.

  2. 02

The inn warns that overseas booking sites, Agoda included, may sell rooms on dates it has none, or show booking details that don't match its own records — and that it can't confirm, change or cancel those reservations. Check your booking directly with the inn before travelling, or book on the official site.

  3. 03

The hotel is closed for maintenance from 14 to 18 December 2026.

  4. 04

It's a large hotel of three linked buildings: from the main building to the baths and buffet takes two lifts and a corridor (3–4 minutes), and the West Wing is further still. The inn doesn't recommend its large annex rooms for guests with limited mobility.

  5. 05

No pick-up from the train station: take the bus from Naganohara-Kusatsuguchi (about 25 minutes) or Karuizawa to Kusatsu Onsen bus terminal, then walk five minutes or call the inn for a lift. Children are welcome, with a children's plate at 50% of the adult rate and free strollers and toilet seats.
