A big, polished lakeside inn that still serves kaiseki dinner in your room, with Mt Fuji from the rooftop foot bath — but it stands on the town shore, so 40 of its 50 rooms face the lake rather than Fuji, and the heated spring water has little character
Konanso opened on the south shore of Lake Kawaguchi in 1949 and grew into an eight-storey, 50-room concrete inn, with rooms renovated in stages up to 2022. It stands across the road from the water, a 10-minute walk from Kawaguchiko Station. The appeal is old-school: seasonal kaiseki served in your room (for groups of up to four), a big breakfast buffet, and Mt Fuji seen from the rooftop foot bath, the shared baths and three paid private baths. Location decides what you see. Because the inn is on the town side of the lake, 40 of the 50 rooms look north across the water, away from Fuji. Only the ten Fuji-side rooms face the mountain, and all of them have open-air baths. The water is a calcium-sodium sulphate-chloride spring from the town's wells. It comes out of the ground at 27.3°C, so it has to be heated, and guests call it clean but plain. The inn says the in-room indoor tubs are not onsen. Japanese guests rate it 4.8 across 2,686 reviews on one major site (rooms 4.9) and 4.71 across 1,712 on another. Bloggers in 2022–2023 and booking-site reviewers through 2026 praise the attentive room attendants, crab rice and crab miso soup, gifts for celebrations, free coffee, ice lollies and massage chairs, and fireworks seen from the rooms. Most of the recent evidence comes from booking-site reviews. The 2025–2026 complaints are about details: a strong chlorine smell in one room's open-air bath, a room made up for two when three had booked, towels to carry down to the shared baths, waits for guests who arrived early, an unmemorable dinner and a curt attendant. Two-meal rates run about ¥30,800–60,500 per person.

Fuji-side rooms with an open-air onsen bath: Types J and G (12.5 tatami, 60㎡, seventh-floor corners), K (12 tatami, 47㎡) and the Japanese-Western specials D (80㎡) and E (102㎡, room 807)
These are the only rooms that face the mountain, and each has an open-air bath filled with spring water. A March 2023 blogger in a newly renovated sixth-floor Fuji-side room saw Fuji clearly from the room in the early-morning sun. Reviewers in November 2025 and May 2026 called soaking with Fuji in view the highlight of the stay. An April 2026 guest who spent one night on each side liked both, and suggested the lake side when cloud hides Fuji. A December 2025 guest in a 12.5-tatami special found that the bath smelled strongly of chlorine. One booking site lists ¥46,200–60,500 per person with two meals.
Rin (凛) and Kohaku (琥珀), the 55㎡ modern lake-view rooms with a semi-open-air onsen bath (for two)
Designer rooms with large spring-water tubs facing the lake and its lights at night. Reviewers in February, May and July 2026 rated them highly, and one noted Fuji rising behind the building. An April 2026 family with two small children all fitted in the bath but found the toilet dated. A May 2026 guest found the room clock running 15 minutes off, the kind of small slip that recent critics mention.
Nên tránh
Tamayura (たまゆら) lake-side rooms (38–58㎡), the terrace rooms and the Awaumi suite, if Fuji or onsen in the room is the point
The Tamayura rooms offer good lake views and the lowest rates (from ¥30,800 per person on one site), but no Fuji view (you see it from the roof) and no onsen in the room. The 58㎡ Types F and Q add a view bath, but it isn't onsen, and the basic 38㎡ Type N is the smallest. The terrace Japanese-Western rooms, which have a small in-room sauna, are eight steps up from the lift, and you can't choose between the three interiors. The 106㎡ Awaumi suite with its own dry sauna scored 2.67/5 from one August 2026 guest, who complained of a fridge stocked only with water, towels to carry to the shared baths and store-bought salad dressing at breakfast. In summer 2026 one guest found the bedding too warm and another found the bumpy mattress topper uncomfortable.

Nhận định về bữa sáng
4.5/5A buffet led by Japanese dishes at Moegi on the third floor, 7:15–9:30 (last entry 9:00): hōtō noodles, salt-grilled salmon, French toast, eggs and ice cream from the morning. It's the most consistently praised meal, though one August 2026 guest found it ordinary
For the clearest view of Fuji, go up to the free rooftop foot bath at dawn (it's reached by stairs; official hours 6:00–10:00 and 15:00–22:00). You get a token at check-in for coffee from the lounge machine. The three private baths (Fuji views, ¥3,300 for 50 minutes) can be booked at the front desk on the day. Parking is free in the prefectural car park opposite (40 spaces). The free shuttle collects from bus stop 10 at Kawaguchiko Station between 14:00 and 19:30; phone the inn when you arrive.
Điểm đáng chú ý của bữa tối
4.3/5Seasonal kaiseki is served in your room, starting between 18:00 and 19:30. Groups of five or more, and anyone who wants a table and chairs, eat in private rooms in the 'Ryōtei-gai' dining area instead. A March 2023 menu ran from fugu and Oshino red trout sashimi through sukiyaki to crab rice, crab miso soup and a Fuji-shaped cake. Reviewers in 2026 single out the rice cooked in its own pot and the crab miso soup. Extras include wagyu shabu-shabu (¥10,000, book three days ahead), lava-stone steak (¥4,840), Ise lobster (¥8,800) and horse sashimi (¥2,200). Critics found it 'not very memorable' (September 2026), complained of a child's rice that had dried out and frozen desserts (August 2026), and had an attendant who explained the dishes only when asked (2022).
Onsen và thư giãn: thực tế ra sao
A calcium-sodium sulphate-chloride spring (pH 7.2, hypotonic) pumped from Fujikawaguchiko town's No. 2 and No. 3 wells. It comes out at 27.3°C, so it has to be heated. The inn doesn't say whether the baths are recirculated or chlorinated, but one December 2025 guest found that a room's open-air bath smelled strongly of chlorine. According to the inn, the indoor tubs in the rooms are not onsen; the shared baths, private baths, foot bath and the rooms' open-air baths are.
The men's bath, Kirameki (4F: granite indoor bath, outdoor tub edged in hinoki), and the women's bath, Tokimeki (5F: hinoki indoor bath, rock outdoor tub), don't swap. Both have Fuji views, jet baths, a sauna with a view, a cold plunge and a cascade shower, and both are open 15:00–1:00 and 5:00–10:00. Guests find them clean, but the outdoor tubs are small, and in one of them Fuji drops out of sight once you sit down (2023). The three Nagomi private baths on the sixth floor cost ¥3,300 for 50 minutes (15:00–23:00 and 7:00–9:00). The free rooftop foot bath looks at Fuji on one side and the lake on the other. Bloggers in 2022 and 2023 found the baths and massage chairs quiet.
No policy found on the official site or Japanese booking sites — contact the inn. Rooms with an open-air onsen bath and the paid private baths are alternatives.
