Đánh giá chung của du khách Nhật

A 54-room, 330-year-old Iwaki-Yumoto inn with 100% free-flowing sulphur water, a ninth-floor open-air bath and its own nuclear-disaster museum — good-value and family-friendly, but it's a big, ageing concrete building, and 2026 reviews mention insects, a leak and crowded breakfasts

Furutakiya was founded in 1695 and is now run by the founding family's 16th generation; despite the long lineage, it's a modern multi-storey block of 54 rooms that climbs the hillside in two wings. After the 2011 earthquake and nuclear accident it became a relief depot, a volunteers' lodging and a dormitory for an evacuated high school, and in March 2021 the owner turned a former banquet room into the private Nuclear Disaster Archive Museum 'furusato', which guests can visit. The draw is the water: Iwaki-Yumoto's sulphur–sodium chloride–sulphate spring (pH 8.1, 59°C), which the inn says is cooled without adding water and never recirculated, in two large baths with hot and warm tubs and a ninth-floor open-air bath for staying guests, plus a retro sentō-style private onsen bath opened in August 2025. Japanese guests rate it 4.11 across 1,891 reviews on one major site (baths and dinner 4.15, facilities 3.91) and 4.0 across 1,617 on another. Bloggers who stayed in 2023 and 2026 loved the soft, sulphur-scented water, the book lounge with free drinks, the okami's flower arrangements on every floor and friendly staff. The complaints are about age and scale: in 2026 guests reported insects including a centipede, a dusty air conditioner and no one at the front desk at night (August), rain leaking into the old wing during a downpour and a room entered by cleaning staff before checkout (September), long queues at the breakfast buffet, a far-off car park and student groups filling the baths. One blogger posting in January 2026 found the dinner poor value. Two-meal stays run about ¥19,400–30,800 per person; room-only stays from about ¥5,000–6,000.

Nên chọn

  • Kashinrō (花心楼) special rooms on the seventh floor — Akane, Shion and Ao

The only three rooms with their own semi-open-air onsen bath, fed by the same free-flowing spring and usable around the clock: Akane has a hinoki tub, Ao the inn's only king-size bed, and Shion is a 36.5㎡, 20-tatami family room with a slide, wooden toys and picture books. All are barrier-free; the fourth, Ruri, has an ordinary bath. The tub is empty on arrival — a blogger in Shion had to fill it from a tap (52.9°C at the spout, 41°C in the tub) and noted the opening has a fixed screen but no glass and the sliding entrance door rattles; a May 2026 guest who booked a room with its own onsen bath was dismayed to find it unfilled and a layout that meant walking through the bedroom between bath and washbasin.

  • Genroku-kan rooms and singles near the baths, or a modern Japanese room

The official site recommends Genroku-kan for older guests and keen bathers because it's close to the front desk and baths. A May 2026 blogger chose a 10㎡ single directly opposite the Daikoku-no-yu bath and paid ¥8,800 with breakfast plus ¥150 bathing tax — 'open the door, a few steps, onsen'. The four modern Japanese rooms on the seventh floor (20–33㎡, with beds, desks and views over the Onsen Shrine) suit those who'd rather not sleep on futons; a March 2023 stay in a seventh-floor room with beds noted a huge TV and a balcony facing the shrine.

Nên tránh

  • Taiheikan (太平館), the cheaper upper wing

The official site itself warns that Taiheikan means changing lifts and a longer walk to the front desk and baths, and calls it unsuitable for older guests or anyone with limited mobility. Guests describe the rooms as roomy but dated 'Shōwa'; one reviewer found the transfers a hassle, and in September 2026 a Taiheikan guest saw rain leaking into the old building. The six singles have no view.

Nhận định về bữa sáng

3.8/5

Breakfast in the 10th-floor hall at 7:00 or 8:00 — either a basket of small dishes with a seafood miso soup or a buffet, depending on the day; generally liked, though 2026 guests mention long queues, a cramped buffet, dishes going lukewarm by the 8:00 sitting and popular items running out

Book the Kamekichi-no-yu private bath (8th floor, ¥3,300 for 45 minutes, same-day reservations, 15:00–23:00) at check-in. The Tsukimachi-no-yu private bath is out of service. Wash in the main baths first: the ninth-floor open-air bath has no washing area and closes in bad weather and on frozen winter days. Drivers can stop at the entrance to unload — the free car park is a walk away along a narrow, busy pavement.

Điểm đáng chú ý của bữa tối

3.6/5

Set Japanese meals in the 10th-floor hall at 18:00 or 18:45 (no in-room or private-room dining): the Miyabi course with individual sashimi boats and Fukushima-beef sirloin, the lighter Irodori and Hana courses, or a seafood hotpot, with Iwaki-grown Koshihikari rice. A September 2026 family called the Miyabi dinner superb, and a March 2023 pair enjoyed amberjack and tuna sashimi, simmered black cod and the beef, though it was too rich to finish. But a blogger posting in January 2026 called a roughly ¥10,000 dinner poor value — dry croquettes, bland hotpot, dull rice — and recommended staying room-only. Many plans instead include a ¥3,000 voucher for Tsudaya, a separately run izakaya-style restaurant on the second floor (17:00–23:00), which guests found ordinary but flexible.

Onsen và thư giãn: thực tế ra sao

Loại nước

Iwaki-Yumoto's sulphur–sodium chloride–sulphate spring (pH 8.1, 59°C at source), with only a mild sulphur smell. The inn says it is 100% free-flowing, never recirculated and cooled to temperature without adding water. Apart from the three Kashinrō rooms, in-room baths are tap water, not onsen.

Sự riêng tư và không gian

Two large baths — Daikoku-no-yu (6th floor, the biggest, with hot and warm rock tubs and wide windows) and Sennen-no-yu (4th floor, no view) — swap between men and women; the Tenkai-no-yu open-air bath on the ninth floor, 40m up with three tubs at different temperatures over the Onsen Shrine, is for staying guests only and is women's 15:00–24:00, men's 5:00–9:00. The baths are open 15:00–24:00 and 5:00–9:00; day visitors use them too. The 2025 Kamekichi-no-yu is a private onsen bath with indoor and outdoor tubs and a large mural. A 2026 blogger was told the Fuku-no-yu semi-open-air bath above Daikoku-no-yu had closed, though the official site still lists it. Pre-school children may use either side; there are baby beds and kids' chairs in the changing rooms.

Quy định về hình xăm

Not tattoo-friendly in the shared baths: the inn's Jalan listing says people with tattoos are asked not to use the large baths or the open-air bath. The three Kashinrō rooms have their own onsen bath; ask the inn about the private Kamekichi-no-yu.

Lưu ý và những điều tinh tế

  1. 01

    Check-in 15:00 (until 23:00 on some room-only plans), check-out 10:00. The inn's Instagram announces a closure for in-house work from 12 to 16 October 2026.

  2. 02

A large, busy house that takes school sports camps and groups: an August 2026 guest found the baths packed with students, and a September 2026 guest reported a cleaner unlocking the room before checkout.

  3. 03

Upkeep varies: 2026 reviews mention insects including a centipede, a dusty air conditioner, a rain leak, a stiff toilet lever and no staff at the front desk at night — others found it spotless.

  4. 04

Very family-friendly: a kids' space with over 300 picture books, a nursing room, an ostomate-accessible toilet and barrier-free rooms; pre-schoolers get no yukata, towels or toothbrushes, so bring your own.

  5. 05

The building houses the Nuclear Disaster Archive Museum 'furusato' and a Shōwa-era display room; the owner also runs 'F Study Tours' of the evacuated Futaba district. Iwaki-Yumoto is known for separating bed and board, and the town has few dinner options, so book a restaurant early if staying room-only.
