Konsensus Tamu Jepang

The Tsuruga group's big flagship on Lake Akan: Ainu art everywhere, three bath complexes with a lake-level garden bath and a rooftop tub, and a huge Hokkaido buffet — but it's a busy, tour-heavy hotel, and 2026 reviews flag worn baths, smells in cheaper rooms and an offsite car park

Yuku no Sato Tsuruga calls itself the starting point of the Tsuruga group, which began at Lake Akan in 1955 and now runs resorts across Hokkaido; its sister inn Hinanoza, in the same onsen town, is the small, quieter option. This is the big one: a main building, the Bekkan 'Miyabi' annex and, since April 2024, the former Akanko Tsuruga Wings, all filled with Ainu carvings and patterns — the Rera rooms even have Ainu folk-craft furniture and bedcovers embroidered by a lakeside artist. Most rooms are tatami or Japanese-Western, and the draw is the bathing: a basement-and-ground-floor complex with seven kinds of bath and a garden open-air bath almost level with the lake, an eighth-floor bath with a rooftop tub and a glass dome sauna, and the Wings baths. Most recent evidence comes from booking-site reviews rather than blogs: Japanese guests rate it 4.6 across 3,892 reviews on one major site (baths and both meals 4.6) and 4.30 across 252 on another, where access scores only 3.47. They praise the lake views, the variety of baths and a buffet of sushi, tempura and Hokkaido seafood that 2022 and 2023 travelogues also loved. The 2026 complaints: the rooftop bath's glass fogged, worn turf and debris in the water, musty smells in Wings corridors, a drain smell and damp pillows, a car park about 600m away, kiosk check-in with no help carrying bags outside the annex, crowds of tour groups, and a longtime guest who found the buffet slipping. Two-meal stays cost 2026 reviewers from about ¥12,000 to over ¥30,000 per person.

Panduan memilih kamar

Direkomendasikan

  • Bekkan 'Miyabi' rooms with an open-air bath — e.g. the 12-mat Japanese room with open-air bath (52–67㎡)

The annex rooms have a free-flowing open-air bath of their own, plus check-in from 14:00, check-out at 11:00, a private lounge, late-night snacks and staff who carry your bags. A repeat guest in August 2026 said everything from the welcome to the lounge and the room bath felt special enough to justify the annex; an April 2026 guest upgraded to an annex Japanese-Western room had a clear lake view and a massage chair.

  • Lake-side rooms — annex Japanese-Western rooms (45㎡) or the Wings building's lake-side 12-mat Japanese rooms

The lake is the point of staying here: a September 2026 guest in a Japanese-Western room called the view of Lake Akan from the wide window the best part. Wings also has 108㎡ lake-side suites with a private sauna and cold plunge.

Sebaiknya dihindari

  • Cheaper town-side and building-side rooms (Rera, Komorebi, Wings), especially in the Wings building

In 2026 reviewers in budget rooms looked out at a neighbouring wall (March), had a window only in the bathroom (June), found Wings corridors and rooms smelling musty (May), a drain smell from the bathroom (May), damp-smelling pillows (July) and air conditioning that wouldn't adjust (September). The Komorebi Japanese-Western room with a shower booth has no tub.

Konsensus soal sarapan

4.3/5

A big buffet with Japanese, Western and Chinese dishes, or a Japanese set breakfast in the Hokurikyu restaurant (7:00–9:00) — widely praised, though a September 2026 guest missed the salmon roe they'd hoped for

The shared baths switch between men and women at 22:00, so plan which one you want before evening events — a June 2026 guest missed the rooftop bath that way. Book the family bath (¥2,200 for 75 minutes) by phone. Drivers must stop at the main entrance first: the car park is a separate lot, and you return by shuttle. Try the welcome steamed potatoes.

Catatan soal makan malam

4.3/5

Choose between the Hokkaido buffet at Tenga and HAPO — sushi made in front of you, fresh tempura, sashimi and Hokkaido prawns, Italian and Chinese, plus a cellar of about 1,000 wines — or kaiseki and teppanyaki at Hokurikyu (renovated December 2021, table seating, 18:00–21:00), where a sample menu featured Akkeshi clams, Lake Akan ito (Japanese huchen) sashimi and a kinki fish hotpot. Most 2026 guests called the buffet excellent ('the best buffet in Hokkaido', one wrote in July), but a longtime guest found quality and quantity down and the drinks plan slow, and a May 2026 couple found the Western and Chinese dishes poor. No in-room dining.

Onsen & relaksasi: kenyataannya

Jenis air

The main building's baths use a simple spring (neutral, high-temperature); the Wings baths use a sodium-magnesium-calcium bicarbonate-chloride spring. According to the official site, the shared indoor baths are partly free-flowing, partly recirculated and filtered, partly heated and chlorinated; the outdoor baths are recirculated, heated and chlorinated. The family bath is free-flowing, and the annex rooms' open-air baths can be topped up with water but are changed daily, so no chlorine is used.

Privasi & suasana

Three bath areas: Hōgaden on the basement and ground floor (hinoki, Japanese jacuzzi, log, cave, lying and walking baths, plus a garden open-air bath almost level with Lake Akan), Ten-no-hara on the eighth floor with the rooftop Tennyo-no-yu tub and a glass dome sauna, and the Wings baths (15:00–24:00) with a paid rock-sauna spa. The family bath has a hoist and is free for guests with disabilities or who have had surgery. 2026 reviewers loved the variety but reported the rooftop glass fogged, worn artificial turf, insects and debris floating in the water and many stairs in the basement bath; the rooftop tub was closed for emergency repairs during a November 2022 stay.

Kebijakan tato

The official FAQ says guests with tattoos may not use the large public baths. Annex rooms have their own open-air bath; it isn't stated whether the bookable family bath is allowed — ask the hotel.

Peringatan & catatan lokal

  1. 01

    Check-in 15:00, check-out 10:00 (Bekkan annex 14:00 and 11:00). Late check-out until 12:00 costs ¥5,500 an hour (¥11,000 for annex rooms).

  2. 02

The car park is a separate lot away from the hotel: stop at the main entrance first. 2026 guests disliked being packed in tightly, walking on gravel and being hurried to return the parking pass. There's no free station shuttle; a paid Akanko Express bus runs daily from Sapporo from October 2026 to March 2027 (book five days ahead).

  3. 03

A big, busy hotel: all three buildings check in at the main lobby via a kiosk, and outside the annex you carry your own bags. 2026 reviews mention tour groups and a noisy entrance.

  4. 04

No in-room dining; kaiseki at Hokurikyu needs advance booking.

  5. 05

Children are welcome (buffet-plan rates for ages 2–6 from ¥4,400 with meals and futon); children may enter the opposite-sex bath only up to age 6. Dogs can stay only in the kennel (¥2,200 a night, with vaccination records).
